So..... I might buy a Toyota? 4x4, auto. Low miles (100,000 miles) and $5K canadian. Dealer serviced it’s whole life it looks like.
What say (whats left of) Oppo? Needs refreshed rims, a claybar and 90's graphics for sure.

I mean it’s no Forte, but I guess it could be a decent winter car.

It’s no 3 door, but this generation is definitely the really only interesting one.
Don’t bother refinishing those wheels. Try to find these instead:

Woah, that is a really nice spec! It’s a nice blurple color and the paint appears to be in excellent condition. The plastics need some attention but that is in far better condition than it has any right to be. I would be very interested in learning more about it.

I’d like to try and do a light cosmetic refresh and a flip? They’ve got some value and I think a light coating of peroid graphics and some lights up front would add some $$$ for limited investment.
I’m a decent detailer. Claybar, ceramic coat, trim restore and an interior fabric cleaning would be major.

I like it - I see those on the street all the time her in San Jose. They’re a tempting little 4x4.

I think it would be an entertaining purchase for the winter and maybe longer? I do need a better dd than my ST.

$5k seems expensive , but those are canada bucks.

does it??? Seemed like a bargin to me. I’ve seen cars with 4x that milage go for just a little less

I looked at almost the exact same one (paint, wheels, etc) in Walnut Grove about 6 years ago. Went with a Forester instead but I’ve always had a soft spot for these. They will do nothing but appreciate in value, I reckon.

You are in the great snowy north so definitely a different market. A first gen rav4 in the midwest (missouri) was like a $2-3 k car usually depending on miles and condition.
That was pre-covid last I looked too.

Not so snowy metro vancouver. So rust isn’t a player and cars are typically in better shape

Same. I think it’s a sure bet

~ $4000 for a 20-year-old car seems expensive to me. Though the mileage is low. Those things are so old it’s hard to find comparables though. There’s only one on my local craigslist, and it’s listed at $2500 with twice the miles and a dented fender, which also doesn’t seem like a good deal to me. There is also a 2001 ( 2nd-gen) with 104k miles for $4300. And there are 2nd-gen Foresters and assorted other newer CUVs in the same price range.

I might be able to knock some off of that.

skip the lights, they don’t add value to a vehicle like this (some would argue it lowers the perceived value ) . Some elbow work will bring it back to its former glory.

The first-gen Rav4 is fucking awesome

I say do it, but then you'd complain later that you didn't get a manual.

it sold to a wholesaler and they didn’t update their online inventory this monring.
I will create an alert and if/when it resurfaces, I will try for it.

Unfortunatly, the dealer sold it to a wholesaler last night. fuckers.
I set an alert to see if it pops back up.
I would have bought it today..

I’ve been looking for a good 3-door manual for many months now, but no dice.
There’s a lot of clean ones in Europe , though!
